Motor Trade Insurance
Motor traders, mobile mechanics and other technicians who provide mobile services to the motoring public need insurance for all the cars they are likely to drive, either their own or belonging to customers.
As with ordinary private car insurance cover may be arranged for third party, plus (if required and if available) fire theft and accidental damage.
The basic unit of cover is for Road Risks only, ie cover applies only whilst the vehicle is being driven on a public highway. Some insurance providers will also give cover on a Road Risks policy for vehicles whilst parked.
Where the business includes buying and selling vehicles, extensions are sometimes available for vehicle stocks, premises and for demonstration risk.
Driving is usually limited to named drivers and high value and/or unusual vehicles may have to be listed separately.
Where motor trade is only undertaken part time, applicants must specify clearly any other trades in which they are engaged.
If the business has employees insurance must be arranged for liability to them.
