Touring caravan security is a complicated subject for those not in the know. However, it’s worth taking the time to familiarise yourself with the various security devices available for touring caravans; they can really help cut the price of your caravan insurance.

Caravan Insurance & Locks

The first touring caravan security device to be discussed is the hitch lock. The hitch lock prevents thieves detaching your touring caravan from your car when it is hitched and also prevents them from attaching your caravan to their own car when it is unhitched. This lowers your caravan insurance premium as the caravan is at less risk from thieves.

Wheel clamps

A wheel clamp performs a similar job to the hitch lock, preventing the touring caravan from being stolen by locking a wheel into place and thus lowering your caravan insurance costs by lowering the risk of theft. Hitch and wheel locks differ in effectiveness according to their price.

Tracking systems

A tracking system can be fitted to your touring caravan to ensure that, even if it is stolen,  your caravan can still be found. This also helps to lower your caravan insurance premiums.

AL-KO ATC

The AL-KO ATC is an electronic security device that can be attached to your touring caravan, not to protect it from thieves but from various road and weather conditions. It provide those towing caravans with peace of mind by detecting, via motion sensors, your caravan’s stability and applying the caravan’s brakes should “snaking” occur. This device helps to lower your caravan insurance costs as their is less chance of your touring caravan be damaged during towing.

Tyron Tire Blowout Protection

Another security device that can offer confidence to those towing a touring caravan is the Tyron Tire Blowout Protection system. The system allows the caravan to be towed for a certain distance after a tire blow-out , not only preventing a potential high-speed accident but allowing caravan owners the chance to change their caravan tire somewhere other than the hard-shoulder. Again, with less risk involved when towing your touring caravan, your caravan insurance premium will be lower.

Hopefully, this guide will help you not only protect your touring caravan, but lower your caravan insurance premium too.
